“鱼，我所欲也，熊掌亦我所欲也；二者不可得兼，舍鱼而取熊掌者也。”
成功是每个人梦寐以求的理想状态，而快乐也是我们人生路上的终极追求。但是大部分成功的背后都需要付出艰苦持续的努力和奋斗，过程也往往会痛苦而煎熬，这时候快乐也会消失。当两者不能兼得时，你会做出怎么样的选择？
如果你必须在这两种情况下进行取舍：（1）有份高薪但痛苦的工作，（2）报酬低但快乐的工作；或者是（1）真爱但贫穷的追求者；（2）不爱但有钱有地位的追求者，你会选前者还是后者？
古有孟子辩鱼与熊掌取舍问题，今有江科学子论成功与快乐哪个更重要。
本期英语角我们将围绕“成功和快乐，哪个更重要？”为主题展开讨论，想必你也有着自己的看法和意见，带着你的问题走进英语角跟着老师的步伐和同学们的讨论谈谈你的看法。
以下是本次英语角讨论的步骤，同学们可以参考以下问题和句型进行准备：
第一步：你眼里的快乐、成功分别是什么？
What is happiness?
A happy family /good physical health/a colorful life or do what I like…
What is success?
Having power or becoming famous…
第二步：若快乐和成功不可兼得，你该如何取舍？
What if you had to choose between the two situations?
You could have a well-paid job, but you would be miserable in doing it.
If you could have a low-paid job, but you would be happy in doing it.
Or which one would you like to marry?
You have a true but poor lover.
You have a wooer (求爱者) with high social and financial status but you don’t love him/her.
My answer is: success
If I could not balance them, I would choose success: a well-paid but hard job, etc.
It can help me live the life I truly want with fame and wealth.
I want to be somebody, gaining recognition.
I can become more confident.
My answer is: happiness
If I had to forsake （舍弃）one for the other, I would choose to be happy.
Happiness can keep me healthy/ I can live a longer life.
Being happy every day, I can be who I am. / Success enslaves(奴役) the person who pursues it.
The pursuit of success is a lonely road. I might feel lonely without true friends.
第三步：快乐、成功如何兼得
Seek joy amidst hardship. / Try to enjoy yourself and laugh despite your suffering.
Try to gain support from your friends and relatives during the pursuit of success. Then success and happiness come to a balance.
